A short list of things I’ve learnt this week

30 Apr

1) Crab eating macaques use their tails as fishing lines. They dangle them in the river, and when a crab bites, haul it up and bash it on a tree trunk to kill it.

2) The Borneo jungle has got the better of our minimal packing. River mud, daily downpours and three outfits apiece really don’t mix.

3) There is still a corner of the world that hasn’t heard of the Royal Wedding. Well, there was, until we went there.

4) How to make a prawn trap.

5) Orang-utans are the largest tree dwelling animal in the world. They make nests with leaves.

6) If you expose your four year old to enough leeches, he’ll develop a phobia.

7) Palm oil is responsible for destroying huge tracts of the most beautiful rainforest on earth. Don’t buy it.

Ha! I knew the three outfits would catch up with you. Thought it would be in Cambodia where the red earth is unavoidable.

I agree wholeheartedly about palm oil having seen first hand the devastation. It is very hard to eliminate from your shopping as can be listed as vegetable oil.

Didn’t know that about palm oil – will look at labels carefully now.

(I’ve also read your recent post about the CCTV – what a fabulous way to entertain the family, I’d be gripped!)
