The Gallery

27 Apr

This week’s theme for The Gallery is portraits.  Now I take a lot of photos, a lot.  Really a lot.  I almost became a professional photographer.  And while I don’t really have ambitions in that direction any more, I still love to take photos.  My children are possibly the most photographed people in the Northern Hemisphere.  So choosing a portrait was very hard.  Even when I limited myself to digital photos, discounting all the thousands of prints I have in boxes from before I moved into the digital age.  So I chose a few.  These aren’t all necessarily my favourite portraits of my children, or even my best, most technically polished photos, but they jumped out at me when I was looking.  So here it is, my first blog slideshow…

It was really easy on WordPress. Look up the instructions in WordPress support.

Ahh lovely, I agree with Tara I am jealous. You are going to make mine look rubbish now! xx

      Thank you!

I also love taking photos to the point that my daughter generally refuses to look at me as soon as she knows I have a camera in my hand. These are gorgeous photos and I love the slideshow. I hope one day my daughter becomes less camera shy!

My middle one hates having his photo taken. He’s the one who looks grumpy in most of his! But I love his grumpy face, he’s quite a serious little boy a lot of the time, so I think it does capture him.

  6. Susie 27/04/2010 at 9:37 pm #

wow-especially love the one on bottom right.

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 5:26 pm #

oh, you must be seeing it differently to me. On my computer they appear one after the other.

  7. Brighton Mum-Teenage Angst 27/04/2010 at 9:38 pm #

Really clever! Love the photos you’ve chosen. I do hope you haven’t started a trend now though, I struggle to choose photos, please not a slideshow Tara..

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 8:11 am #

I obviously take FAR too many photos!

Impressive! I love it. I want a slide show!

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:44 pm #

I think there are a few places you can get them…

  11. Vegemitevix 28/04/2010 at 8:42 am #

Wow they really are very very good! I know where to come for a photographer. Oh and your kids are gorgeous, but sadly NOT the most beautiful in the world (that would be my kids!) xx

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:45 pm #

Do you know, you were the ONLY person to rise to my bait! I was expecting lots of comments like yours x

Brilliant photos, had to smile at the one of your son running with a stick (at least that’s what I think he’s holding.) My duaghter has the stick obsessions too, and has to find one whenever we’re near trees – which is most of the time!

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:45 pm #

Yup, that’s a stick. Always to be found with a stick, stone, leaf etc etc etc

  13. Nickie @ Typecast 28/04/2010 at 9:17 am #

    Beautiful, beautiful pictures.

(PS. please don’t think I stole your idea… I set it up last night before I saw this… great minds and all that)

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:46 pm #

I shall pop over and have a look in a minute…

  14. Liz@VioletPosy 28/04/2010 at 9:40 am #

Very cool – love the slideshow! They are really amazing photos, all of them are beautifully lit. Just lovely x

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:46 pm #

Thank you, it was so easy. I do love taking photos!

  15. eggscreamandhoney 28/04/2010 at 9:52 am #

The pics you’ve chosen are lovely. It’s great to see new ideas & interpretations in the gallery each week. There are so many clever, creative and inspiring women in the blogging world! Will have to try the slideshow sometime.

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:47 pm #

There are, aren’t there? I’m constantly surprised. A lot of blogs are better than magazines!

  16. Michelle 28/04/2010 at 11:17 am #

You make the most beautiful photos, really lovely portraits:-)

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:47 pm #

      You’re very kind.

  17. whatshappeningatmyhouse 28/04/2010 at 12:30 pm #

Lovely pictures, particularly the two close ups x

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:47 pm #

I took those this weekend in an attempt to get one shot for this post. Ended up with a few…

  18. Liz (LivingwithKids) 28/04/2010 at 12:56 pm #

Excellent photos – they are beautiful children. Did that pizza taste as good as it looked?

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:48 pm #

It’s a Disneyland pizza, all food in Disneyland is horrible, so no. But she liked it.

  19. Deer Baby 28/04/2010 at 1:31 pm #

That is very clever – I don’t know how you did it but it’s a great idea. My favourites are the ones in the woods when they’re wearing the helmets. They look like the characters in Narnia. Your children are all very photogenic.

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:49 pm #

Those photos are my favourites too. That was the only ‘proper’ photoshoot out of these pictures. Most of the others are just snaps.

  20. christinemosler 28/04/2010 at 1:40 pm #

Beautiful! Well done you! I haven’t been organised enough to do the slide show thing yet but you have inspired me!

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:50 pm #

I can’t believe how easy it was. You just upload them all, then click on a little slideshow button. That’s it.

  21. Plan B 28/04/2010 at 2:18 pm #

You say they’re not technically your best…. I say why do my photos never look that sharp?! Just beautiful.

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 2:51 pm #

The sharper photos were taken with good SLR cameras. The ones in the woods were taken on film, before I had my digital SLR. The fuzzier ones are taken with a tiny camera that I keep in my bag. So camera DOES make a difference. Knowing about light etc is down to experience.

Beautiful pictures – we have the same red and green stripy dress, it’s a real fave. And yes, I will be copying this *strides off to look for slideshow widget*

    xx

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 28/04/2010 at 5:24 pm #

It’s so cool, and really easy to use.

  23. Notes Red Shoes 28/04/2010 at 7:56 pm #

    clever – like it x

  24. Kelly 01/05/2010 at 3:39 pm #

Oh your children are just gorgeous. The photos show what fun you all have together out and about.

    • itsasmallworldafterallfamily 01/05/2010 at 6:05 pm #

      Thank you 🙂
