Splendid bulls

5 Jun

 Highland Cattle by you.

British Agricultural Shows are the highlight of the farming calendar.  They range from tiny village shows with a selection of Victoria sponges and a few ferrets*, to huge County shows the size of a small town.  The Suffolk Show is one of the latter, and is both a showcase for the county’s farmers and an excuse for an annual knees up.  There was a fun fair, wildlife area, countryside craft demonstrations and countless shopping opportunties, including the stand selling combine harvesters.  But for us townies, the highlight was the prize winning animals who were polished and preened to perfection.  There were some truly splendid bulls.

The young man saying “Hi” to the bull is a great portrait. Just don’t pull the ring in his nose 🙂

Hi, I saw one of the shows in Memphis Tennessee of all places. To me it’s amazing the amount of money people put into grooming cows!

The clarity of the top photo is stunning. It’s almost surrealistic.

Thanks, I almost became a photographer but ended up having three kids instead! I’ve just got myself a new camera with a vague plan to get back into it, hence the high res shot.

Love the photos – and I love country fairs! My eldest one (who’s almost 5) would go to a country fair every day if it were possible. She’s obsessed with animals – yes even ferretts which she doesn’t mind picking up and kissing!! (Some friends have them as pets bizarrely). x

We’re going to a small village one later in the summer so I might do a compare and contrast. They play a game called ferret roulette – you put the ferret in a box with lots of holes and make bets on which hole it will come out of. Hours of fun!

Ooh I like the sound of ferret roulette!

Were you there when the black bull escaped from the line in the afternoon. That was an interesting experience . I love your photos of the show, they’re fantastic.
