Skegness is so bracing

So said the 1908 advertising poster for the Lincolnshire seaside town, Skegness.  This is a very British attitude to a seaside holiday.  Not for us warm turquoise sea, palm trees and balmy weather.  No, strong winds, grey stormy seas and a chilly temperature are seen as healthy and character forming.

This picture was taken in Southwold, Suffolk, on a truly horrible day this week.  The children had a great time jumping in the waves and digging in the sand.  It was just the adults who wished they were somewhere more tropical.

We have those kinds of days in Michigan, too!
The best thing about them? You usually have the beach all to yourselves 🙂
