A long list

26 Feb

Our trip is more than 18 months away, but already I have a to do list building up in my head.  One of the reasons for starting this blog is to use it as a place to record our planning process.  This is partly to have everything in one place, and partly because I’ve found reading about other people’s preparations really useful.

I will add to this list as I think of things, and cross things off as they get done (hopefully!).

  1. set up blog
  2. switch to online billing for utilities etc
  3. set up flickr and youtube accounts
  4. contact friends in countries we are hoping to visit
  5. potty train Dickon – started 26/03/09
  6. teach children to swim
  7. buy tickets (inc Japan rail pass etc)
  8. get travel insurance
  9. visit travel doctor for jabs etc
  10. visit GP for other health advice
  11. sort out electronics
  12. make arrangements with school for contact
  13. buy children’s packs and daypack
  14. decide whether Steve needs a new pack
  15. buy any necessary clothing or equipment (ie, UV suits for children)
  16. make arrangements for forwarding post
  17. cancel subscriptions to TV, magazines etc
  18. clear our stuff to basement
  19. rent out  house
  20. sell car
  21. book hotel for first few days

I predict the boring stuff will get done last! You should get on Twitter too if not already done, great for recommendations & help once you build up followers & Travel Blog exchange is a great forum.

Yeah, somehow I think that buying nice new stuff is going to be more fun than dealing with house rental agents!
